Germany’s New Founder Boom

After years of stagnation, one part of Germany’s economy is showing remarkable momentum: entrepreneurship.

The number of new businesses and startups is rising at a pace not seen for a long time.

  • A record-high 3,053 startups were founded in Germany in the first half of 2026, 88% more than in the same period last year.
  • The broader business creation rate reached 13% in 2025, continuing a five-year upward trend in early-stage entrepreneurial activity.
  • However, a growing share of new businesses is being launched on a part-time basis. Last year, 70% of new enterprises were started alongside existing employment.

Venture capital funding is recovering and the government is working on a more supportive policy framework with the recently published new startup strategy. This could provide fertile ground for the numerous newly founded firms to grow.
